Treating non-healing wounds
A non-healing wound is defined as a wound showing no improvement after four weeks and failing to heal within eight weeks. Non-healing wounds can cause skin erosion, infection and complications which can be damaging to organs and limbs and can even be life threatening, especially for those with diabetes and heart conditions.
The TMC Center for Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Medicine provides advanced wound care for a variety of wounds, including:
- Lower extremity diabetic wounds
- Ulcers from poor circulation
- Venous stasis ulcers
- Surgical wounds
- Pressure sores
- Resistant bone infections
- Radiation injury
The center's staff, which includes physicians, nurses and technicians trained in wound care and management, work closely with your primary care physician to create an individualized treatment plan to help speed the healing process.
This may include visits to the center as well as detailed instructions for home care. Depending on the type of wound, treatments may include medication, surgery, podiatric care and hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT).
Specialized wound care heals deep knee injury
Regarding the care she received, Shirley Robinson says, “I’ve been treated really well. I wish there were more doctors out there like Dr. Masood. She knew exactly what to do. I think she’s just wonderful, and we’re lucky to have her.”
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
During HBOT, a patient breathes 100 percent oxygen while relaxing in a pressurized chamber. This delivers high concentrations of oxygen to the bloodstream and the wound, which rapidly accelerates the healing process. The staff at the TMC Center for Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Medicine works with your primary physician to discuss your HBOT treatment program and keep him or her updated on your progress. Remember, you'll need to keep seeing your doctor for routine medical care.
