Treatment to Reduce Pain and Tension
Dry needling is a treatment used in physical therapy to help reduce pain and tension in affected areas. Not to be confused with acupuncture, in dry needling a small, thin, monofilament needle is inserted into the deeper tissues that can cause pain.
Dry needling is used to decrease muscle tightness or trigger points to improve flexibility and decrease tension in the muscle. It is often used to treat chronic pain, acute injuries and even sports injuries.
This treatment may be able to help you if you experience pain in any of the following areas:
- Neck
- Back
- Shoulder
- Arm (elbow)
- Head (headaches/migraines)
- Buttock
- Leg
- Foot
Talk to your physical therapist to see if dry needling can help you.
