Ambulatory

Residents will provide longitudinal outpatient primary care for their patients over the course of their training at the continuity clinic site Grayson County Health Clinic  located approximately five miles from Texoma Medical Center. Residents provide longitudinal continued care to their own panel of patients at this clinic.

Time in the continuity clinic graduates from a half day per week during PGY-1 year to three to four half days per week PGY-3 year. During PGY-3 year, there is a month rotation dedicated to continuity clinic.

Residents are provided dedicated time during their continuity clinic to develop and master the skills of practicing population health and improve the delivery of care and health outcomes of their patient panel and local community. Office-based procedures are incorporated into continuity clinic. We also have dedicated procedure clinic days to further enhance your procedural skills and competency.

Other outpatient rotation experiences include Community Medicine, Endocrinology, Cardiology, Pediatrics, Geriatric Medicine, Gynecology, Orthopedics, Rheumatology, Sports Medicine, Dermatology, Pain Management, ENT, and other medical and surgical subspecialties.

Inpatient

Residents do all their inpatient rotations at Texoma Medical Center (TMC). Founded in Denison Texas over five decades ago, the current location of the hospital was built in 2009 and offers a comprehensive range of services similar to hospitals in large metropolitan areas. The hospital offers major specialty services including Interventional Cardiology, Cardiothoracic Surgery, and Neuro-interventional services. TMC has many major programs and accreditations including: Certification as a  Primary Stroke Center by Texas Department of Health Services; Accredited Chest Pain Center with Primary PCI, Accredited Cardiac Cath Lab with PCI, and HeartCARE Center National Distinction of Excellence all by American College of Cardiology; Breast Imaging Center of Excellence from American College of Radiology; the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal for Hip and Knee replacement and Spinal Fusion Certification; and Robotic Center of Excellence designation from the Surgical Review Corporation.

Inpatient rotations done at Texoma Medical Center include:  Inpatient Adult Medicine, Intensive Care Unit, Emergency Medicine, Obstetrics, Inpatient Pediatrics, Pediatric Emergency Medicine, NICU rotation and General Surgery.

Didactics

The goals of the Family Medicine Residency didactic program are to:

  1. Educate residents in the broad spectrum of the specialty with an emphasis on delivering continuous comprehensive care to a diverse patient population.
  2. Develop the humanistic and culturally sensitive characteristics necessary for effective doctor-patient relationships fundamental to the specialty.
  3. Foster a love for learning and desire for continuous improvement among residents through a supportive, but challenging, curriculum.

Didactic sessions are scheduled for a half day per week and resident attendance is mandatory. The curriculum has been developed with guidance from nationally recognized family medicine organizations such as the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), Society for Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM) and the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM).
